Who is doing the work?
Eco-sanitation user & advocate
“I no longer have to walk miles for a safe place. This toilet is my pride.”
Kamala's village installed waterless eco-toilets with a local women's cooperative. For her, the change is measured in safety, time and dignity.
Sundarbans resident
“Our village is now better protected from floods.”
Meena lives behind the embankments of the Sundarbans, where the mangrove belt is the first defence against the tide.
Community clean-up leader
“Planet Mama changed how I see nature. I now lead cleanups in my village.”
Rina went from taking part to leading, organising clean-ups of shorelines and creeks in her village on the Odisha coast.
Coastal community member
“Our beach is cleaner and the fish are back!”
On Tamil Nadu's coast, Salma has seen what healthier nearshore waters mean for the fish her community depends on.
Village water planning
“For the first time, our village knows how much water we actually have, and how to make it last.”

07Women & water
Where water isn’t piped to the home, fetching it falls overwhelmingly to women and girls. That’s why women lead Planet Mama’s work: in nurseries, in sanitation cooperatives and in planning their village’s water.

hours spent by women and girls every day collecting water, worldwide.
