02 · Restoring coastal ecosystems and livelihoods.
The challenge
Mangroves are nature's coastal protectors. They slow storm surges, hold eroding banks together and shelter the fish and crabs that coastal families live on. Where they are lost, embankments fail, villages flood and livelihoods go with them.
Our approach
Local women take part in every stage, from seed collection and nursery establishment to field plantation and aftercare, and are paid for that work.
Species are matched to salinity, tidal range and elevation so saplings survive. We count survival, not just planting.
School plantation events and lessons, so the next generation understands why the forest at the village edge matters.
Linking restored mangroves and nearshore waters to livelihoods such as sustainable fisheries and seaweed, so that protecting the coast pays.
